Duke Manufacturing built the Flexible Batch Broiler exclusively for Burger King, offering the corporation a new, efficient direction in cooking the infamous Whopper.
"Back in 2004, when we brought the concept of batch broiling to some of our other suppliers, they said it couldn't be done. Duke, on the other hand, said it could be done. And they did it. The finished broiler is better than we anticipated,” John Reckert, vice president of operations, R&D and quality assurance of Burger King Corporation, said.
The Flexible Batch Broiler is designed to flame broil a variety of food products, thus obtaining “flexible” in its title. Whether it be Angus beef or chicken, the Flexible Batch Broiler turns frozen products into char flavored, tender and juicy pieces of meat. A single cook in the kitchen can deliver eight Whoppers or 12 regular burgers in two minutes or less. This would give a production rate of 240 Whoppers and 360 regular burgers per hour. Also, the Flexible Batch Broiler can flame broil products that haven’t been thawed out.
Ranging from $5,400-6,900, the Flexible Batch Broiler will save energy, time and money. Burners within the machine cycle on and off when cooking food products and when the machine is not in use. The cooking chamber is also sealed off, leaving little room for wasted heat, reducing kitchen temperatures by 10-15 degrees.
