Federal Industries Releases Two Displays

Specialty display case maker Federal Industries, is now offering the Seafood and Fish Maxi Merchandiser Line. The new state-of-the-art refrigerated seafood and fish case comes in two different styles. The new line’s eye-catching design can be used to stand alone or for continuous line-up.

The first style, High Volume Seafood and Fish Maxi Case, features lift-up, pneumatic, cylinder-assisted, tempered thermopane straight front glass with the added benefit of high visibility and classy presentation for seafood and fish products. These cases include tempered-end glass and rear doors, stainless steel ice pans with a drain, stainless steel exterior finishes and decorative end panels. The merchandisers are available in four feet, six feet, eight feet and ten feet.

The second model, Curved Glass Seafood and Fish Maxi Case, features lift-up, pneumatic, cylinder-assisted, tempered thermopane sleek-curved glass for an enticing seafood and fish presentation. These cases include tempered-end glass and rear doors, stainless steel ice pans with drain, stainless steel exterior finishes and decorative end panels. The merchandisers are available in four feet, six feet, eight feet and ten feet.

Federal Industries also released a new “Grab-and-Go” display case: the refrigerated, self-serve, low-profile, specialty merchandiser. The case, with two tiers of metal shelves and a stainless steel display deck, incorporates an automatic defrost and condensate evaporator for a totally self-contained system. The unit, with a horizontal top light and high-density foam insulation, is available in four lengths – three feet, four feet, five feet and six feet.

Carlisle Acquires Dinex International

Carlisle Companies Incorporated announced that it has acquired Dinex International, Inc., a supplier of foodservice products to the healthcare and other institutional industries. With annual sales of approximately $85 million, Dinex supplies tray top small wares, dishware, disposable lids and packaging as well as heating and meal delivery systems. The business will operate within Carlisle FoodService Products.

Dinex distributes its products through a well-established network of foodservice distributors servicing the healthcare sector, including hospitals, nursing homes and other care and assisted living facilities. The company has a strong industry position and a substantial installed base upon which a reliable flow of recurring product sales is generated.

This acquisition complements Carlisle's core foodservice product categories and supports its growth initiatives in the healthcare, educational, corrections and other institutional foodservice markets. The purchase of Dinex will also allow Carlisle FoodService Products to leverage its product and manufacturing capabilities into Dinex’s established sectors.

Burger King Chooses Duke's Flexible Batch Broiler

Duke Manufacturing built the Flexible Batch Broiler exclusively for Burger King, offering the corporation a new, efficient direction in cooking the infamous Whopper.

"Back in 2004, when we brought the concept of batch broiling to some of our other suppliers, they said it couldn't be done. Duke, on the other hand, said it could be done. And they did it. The finished broiler is better than we anticipated,” John Reckert, vice president of operations, R&D and quality assurance of Burger King Corporation, said.

The Flexible Batch Broiler is designed to flame broil a variety of food products, thus obtaining “flexible” in its title. Whether it be Angus beef or chicken, the Flexible Batch Broiler turns frozen products into char flavored, tender and juicy pieces of meat. A single cook in the kitchen can deliver eight Whoppers or 12 regular burgers in two minutes or less. This would give a production rate of 240 Whoppers and 360 regular burgers per hour. Also, the Flexible Batch Broiler can flame broil products that haven’t been thawed out.

Ranging from $5,400-6,900, the Flexible Batch Broiler will save energy, time and money. Burners within the machine cycle on and off when cooking food products and when the machine is not in use. The cooking chamber is also sealed off, leaving little room for wasted heat, reducing kitchen temperatures by 10-15 degrees.
