The National Restaurant Association has gone official with its Conserve initiative -- a unique new online tool to spur environmental education, resources, tips, tools and best practices on how the nation’s nearly one million restaurants and foodservice locations can conserve natural resources and become more sustainable.
Unveiled at a special event during NRA, the Conserve initiative featured speaks from NRA, Kimpton Hotels, Subway Restaurants and other representatives from around the industry with specific interest and experience in managing the energy consumption demands of the restaurant industry.
According to the NRA, spending on utilities consumes approximately 2.5 percent to 3.4 percent of total restaurant sales, depending on the type of operation. When utilizing greener, more energy efficient appliances and other eco-friendly solutions, restaurateurs can not only cut costs and improve their green image, but also attract a new class of diners seeking out these eco-friendly dining establishments.
