A Profile Of Success
Red The Uniform Tailor (RTUT), established in 1977, remains an award-winning, family-owned WBE company, one of the largest privately held uniform companies in the United States providing custom, modified and stock uniforms to 2,000+ customers. Located in Lakewood, N.J., the company owns and operates a second domestic manufacturing facility in Philadelphia, Pa. Overseas production consists of significant manufacturing relationships in China, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and several other countries. Additionally they also maintain retail and warehouses in Milwaukee, Wis., and Marietta, Ga.
RTUT is comprised of four distinct divisions: hospitality, law enforcement/security, corporate and industrial. In addition to its own direct sale business, RTUT provides private label manufacturing for a number of well-known, publicly owned companies.
Somewhat uniquely, RTUT controls all aspects of its manufacturing business, from concept and design to fabric sourcing, pattern-making, cutting, quality control and manufacturing, and ultimately the finished product. RTUT can combine its domestic manufacturing with overseas production, enabling them to bring low cost start-up inventories into the United States and also meet special customer requirements with local manufacturing on an ongoing basis. This capability is what most offshore providers lack and sets them apart from their competitors. The combination of fit, form and function is the goal of both RTUT and their customer.
Their web-based customers are able to access their accounts in real time. With the RTUT online access, customers can place orders, monitor deliveries with integrated shipping and tracking systems, and produce detailed reports that include open order and sales trends among many others. In some cases, RTUT has provided inventory control and barcode software to its customers for precise inventory management.
Multi-property locations are managed through their unique inter-company exchange software, a state-of-the-art Internet-based inventory management system. As opposed to autonomous operations, the combined purchasing efforts and shared resources of multiple locations maximizes savings and helps produce a consistent branding strategy. The customer—in real time—can view all products, place and track orders, review and revise budgets, monitor inventory levels, values and shortages, deliveries, order history and sales trends resulting in significant corporate savings. Paperless blanket purchase orders simplify the purchasing process, resulting in even further savings to the bottom line. A variety of on-demand reports, including detailed financial reporting, are customizable to each customer’s unique levels of access, authority and needs and helping to manage time, resources and money. Custom presentations are available upon request.
Their experienced sales staff has been in the industry longer than most companies survive—and with RTUT for many years. Their knowledge base is constantly refreshed with the most recent technology and trends influencing the industry. The sales organization is national in scope and geography, and the company consistently wins prestigious national design and manufacturing achievement awards.
RTUT has an unusual view of its business—make people look great because of good engineering! The design of apparel determines its functionality and its appearance. Virtually anyone can use good fabric, and lots of people are great sewing machine technicians, but there are very few people who know how to design and engineer quality into garments. At RTUT, quality is engineered from the start and maintained throughout the process. You can tell when you see a tailored garment. RTUT wants your people to look professional—it’s as simple as that.
