Perrier® Sparkling Natural Mineral Water announced that Eric Rieger, also known as HOTTEA, was named the 2017 Perrier the Artist of the Year. Through the ARTXTRA program, Perrier invited consumers to vote on specially created designs by three notable emerging contemporary artists to select one to be named the first ever Perrier Artist of the Year.
HOTTEA is a Minneapolis-based street and installation artist, known for using brightly-colored yarn to create elaborate, eye-catching and non-destructive installations. As Perrier Artist of the Year, HOTTEA will be kicking off a year-long partnership with the brand as well as having his original design featured on a limited edition packaging design available in the U.S. later this year.
Perrier Artist of the Year was introduced as part of ARTXTRA, a new arts initiative started by Perrier in 2016 to support emerging contemporary artists. To launch ARTXTRA and identify the three shortlisted artists, Perrier enlisted the help of industry leaders including: Helen Toomer, Michelle Joan Papillion, Beau Basse, Job Piston and Naomi Beckwith. Consumers then had the option to select their favorite proposed packaging designs online. The three nominees also collaborated with Perrier for an interactive installation series during a special Miami Art Week event.
"Perrier ARTXTRA celebrates next-generation creative talent, building on Perrier's long history of supporting the art community," said Adaora Ugokwe, Senior Marketing Manager, Partnerships for Perrier. "We are thrilled to name HOTTEA the first-ever Perrier Artist of the Year and we look forward to working with him on exciting projects in the year ahead."
